Appliance Repair Service: 5 of the Most Common Repairs

As an appliance repair service technician, we know that you've seen it all.

Every combination of leaking, squeaking, and malfunctioning that an appliance can possibly have- and more.

As appliances become increasingly modernized, their quality has declined, making repairs necessary more often. But what are the most common repairs in this line of work? You're about to find out!

Read on to learn about the five most common appliance repairs.

1. Broken Door Switch/Lid for Washer or Dryer

When a customer calls and tells you that their washer is filling with water but not doing much else, or their dryer seems to simply be out of commission- a broken door switch or lid could be the culprit.

Possible Causes

If the client slams the door too often, it could break the switch, causing the machine to think that the door is ajar.

The Fix

To fix this problem, you'll need to shop around for dryer or washer parts and replace the switch or the lid itself.

How Long Does It Take to Repair?

This appliance repair service usually takes between fifteen and thirty minutes to complete.

2. Broken Ice Maker Mold

If a client is complaining about tiny pieces of what appears to be plastic in their ice cubes, it's probably due to their fridge's ice maker mold.

Possible Causes

The coating on the ice maker itself can deteriorate over time, and pieces of it will end up in the ice cubes.

The Fix

The only fix possible here is to replace the ice maker itself.

How Long Does It Take to Repair?

This repair takes twenty to thirty minutes to complete.

3. Jammed/Broken Dishwasher Float Switch

If the float switch in a dishwasher is broken, the machine won't fill with water at all.

Possible Causes

Sometimes a dining utensil can lodge itself underneath the float switch. This jam will cause the switch to be pressed up, which in turn will cause the dishwasher to think that it's already full of water.

The Fix

Get rid of anything pressing the float switch up.

How Long Does It Take to Repair?

This repair takes only about five or ten minutes to complete.

4. Leaky Fridge

If water is present inside of a refrigerator or freezer, a clogged defrost drain is usually the reason behind it.

Possible Causes

This clog can occur because of plastic bags, food items, or anything else that might escape into the drain.

The Fix

Taking the back panel off of the fridge and thawing the drain will fix this problem.

How Long Does It Take to Repair?

This repair will set a technician back anywhere from thirty to forty minutes.

5. Frosty Freezer

Usually, in this modern day, freezers have the ability to defrost themselves. So if you encounter a frosty freezer, it could mean trouble.

Possible Causes

Frost in the freezer is either caused by problems with the defrost system, blocked airflow, a loose seal, or the freezer door having been left open for an extended period of time.

The Fix

Replacing the heater used to defrost the freezer will do the trick.

How Long Does It Take to Repair?

This repair takes twenty to thirty minutes.
